Addiction comes in a lot of shapes, forms and substances. And today I’m going to talk about alcoholism, a legal drug with costly consequences.

So let’s look into the numbers, the direct cost of alcoholism, annually, cost our society $225 billion dollars. Governments, local, regional, national, pick up nearly 50% of those costs, and these are just the direct costs.

Also we have to consider the indirect costs. What it costs families, what it costs jobs, what it costs to your own personal social life and well-being. Alcoholism is a disease and an illness no different than diabetes and hypertension. The only shame is not asking questions and seeking help.

Knowledge is power. Get the facts, make a change, make a difference.
