Castor Castillo is the Regional Clinical Manager of Nirvana Healthcare Management Services (NHMS) and has been with the company for seven years. His initial position was with Salerno Medical Associates (SMA) in East Orange from 2013 to 2016, working in collaboration with six other Medical Assistants (MAs), who supported four clinicians, who, in turn, treated an average of one hundred patients each day.
Mr. Castillo brings to his position more than twenty years of diverse experience in both clinical and administrative practices. After gaining extensive professional experience working for two major New Jersey hospitals, and subsequently, through a two-year tenure as a compliance officer with a New Jersey Covid Team (2015-2022), Mr. Castillo returned to SMA in the summer of 2019.
As Regional Clinical Manager, Mr. Castillo oversees fifty MAs in addition to the activities of all nursing services. His responsibilities include performance evaluation; strategies for performance enhancement; delegation of tasks; communications among administrators, clinicians, and patients; and maintenance of a positive working environment. In addition, Castor hires and trains all MAs; refines and monitors clinical protocols; and trains and supports the team that coordinates services for non-CCM patients.
Recalling one unforgettable moment, Castor treasures a personal note that he received in 2013 from Dr. Alexander Salerno. The note recognized and commended Castor’s work ethic. “His taking the time to write his thoughts meant so much to me. I still have the note.” Castor loves that the professional skills and total commitment of NHMS employees to the care of their patients are acknowledged and valued. “I think of my colleagues as family.”
