Denise L. Peroune

Executive Director of Population Health located in East Orange and Newark, NJ

Dr. Denise L. Peroune joined Nirvana Healthcare Management Services (NHMS) in 2022 as its Executive Director, Population Health. She heads the Community Health Outreach Program (CHOP), managing a full-time staff of twelve.

Dr. Peroune earned her master’s degree (MS) in Human Resource Development and Administration. The focus of her Ph.D. is on leadership and education. Her professional experience encompasses both academia and the private business sector. Dr. Peroune has broad experience as an educator and in marketing and public relations. She served as a marketing communications consultant for a decade and has been an editor and columnist for an e-journal.

More recent positions have included Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center (Newark); and Professor, Monroe College, King Graduate School (New Rochelle), MBA, and health care administration programs. From 2015 to 2021, Dr. Peroune was a grant writer and grants management specialist, and Chair, of the Grants Research and Evaluation Group (GREG) for the Department of Health and Community Wellness (Newark). Her grant award success rate is 99%, with recent monetary awards ranging from $150,000 to $4,000,000.

As Executive Director, Population Health, Dr. Peroune has administrative oversight of primary care services for seniors, the homebound, and patients with mental health issues and/or substance use disorder. Services are provided on-site where individuals live or gather. Nirvana’s goal is to achieve positive health outcomes through primary care that effectively addresses gaps in care and that ensures well-coordinated follow-up care with specialists, if necessary. The program is results-driven, innovative, and cost-effective. Individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorder (representing the most neglected, under-served populations) are the focus of CHOP, which advocates for the coordination of their primary care and mental health services.
