Our dedication to patient care is reflected in the flawless execution of vein removal surgeries and the painless recovery experienced by our patients.

We specialize in sclerotherapy treatment that uses Asclera polidocanol, a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure for treating uncomplicated spider veins and reticular veins. This treatment involves the injection of Asclera into the affected vein using a fine needle, causing the blood vessels to scar and close, thereby rerouting the blood to healthier veins. Asclera Injection is an FDA-approved treatment and is one of the safest and most effective relief options. Not only is it a purer version of the typical solution, but Asclera Injection has anesthetic properties to reduce discomfort from the injection and spider and reticular veins themselves.

The procedure involves injecting a foam solution directly into your vein. This forces blood to reroute through healthier veins and causes the treated vein to seal shut and fade over time. The treated vein is then naturally absorbed by your body.

Applications for Sclerotherapy with Asclera Injection

Our sclerotherapy treatments are not limited to spider veins but extend to small varicose veins and reticular veins. The Asclera injection is used at the injection site to treat these types of veins, effectively reducing their appearance and associated symptoms. It’s worth noting that patients with deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism should not undergo this treatment.

What Kind of Veins Can Benefit from Sclerotherapy

While sclerotherapy is most commonly used for treating spider veins, it can also prove helpful for small varicose veins. Even larger veins can be treated with this method, but they might require a longer compression treatment and multiple treatment sessions.

At Newark Vein and Vascular Center, LLC, we use sclerotherapy with Asclera Injection to treat the following conditions:

Spider Veins

Spider veins are tiny blood vessels visible through the skin, appearing as red, purple, or blue lines. They are often caused by blood pools in the veins due to poor circulation. With sclerotherapy, the sclerosing agent (Asclera) injected into these veins causes them to collapse and fade over time.

Small Varicose Veins

Small varicose veins, including very small varicose veins, can also greatly benefit from sclerotherapy treatment. The procedure is similar to the one used for spider veins, with the Asclera injection causing the veins to close and eventually disappear.

What to Expect from Treatment

During a sclerotherapy treatment session at Newark Vein and Vascular Center, our healthcare provider will use a fine needle to inject the Asclera solution into the affected veins. After the intravenous needle placement, patients are usually asked to wear compression stockings to maintain compression on the treated veins.

Before your sclerotherapy session, avoid shaving or using lotion. If you take aspirin, ibuprofen, or blood thinners, your doctor may ask you to stop taking the medication before the procedure. You may also want to wear loose, comfortable clothing so it’s easier for the doctor to administer the injection.

The procedure itself is very quick. You will be asked to lie on your back with your legs slightly elevated. After cleaning the area to be treated, your doctor will use a fine needle to inject the Asclera Injection solution into the appropriate vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to swell shut. Eventually, the shut vein will become scar tissue and disappear while blood cells reroute into healthier vessels.

After the injection, you’ll be encouraged to walk around and move your legs to prevent the formation of blood clots. Otherwise, most patients can return to their normal activities on the same day. You may also experience a few temporary side effects, like bruising, which should go away within a few days or weeks.

Who Is Sclerotherapy with Asclera Injection For?

Sclerotherapy with Asclera injection is suitable for individuals bothered by the appearance of their spider or small varicose veins. However, it’s not recommended for patients with impaired cardiac function, acute vein conditions, or those who’ve had severe allergic reactions in the past. Any signs of adverse reactions like trouble breathing, chest pain, or a sudden severe headache should be reported immediately.

While Asclera Injection is generally a safe treatment option, a small percentage of people may have an allergic reaction. Asclera Injection is also not recommended for anyone with an acute blood clotting disease or who is currently pregnant or nursing. If you identify with one of these disqualifiers, our team will work with you to find another sclerotherapy option or a different treatment.
